A Year in Photos: Week 41

Day 284

We changed up Reese's bedtime routine and this is now how she opts to sleep a lot of the time. I'll be the first to admit that we needed to change our routine about a year ago, but it didn't happen and now we're paying for it. Lesson learned! At this point, I really don't care if she's sleeping on the floor, as long as she's sleeping.

Day 285

Reese is now refusing to drink milk out of a cup, so we get dairy in her any way we can. This seems to be her favorite.

Day 286

Spending a little time with my girl in the gorgeous weather after work one day. We played with chalk and bubbles, then Reese made up this game since she loves to jump. It's a somewhat new thing, but she is now jumping off anything she can.

Day 287

Miss Christine noticed the chlorine was bothering Reese, so she put goggles on her. Isn't she cute?!

Day 288

Reese does not like using kid forks and spoons anymore, she definitely notices that they are not what mommy and daddy are using. So, now she picks whichever one she wants. I don't know that the picture does it justice, but on this particular night she choose a serving fork. She also doesn't comprehend that sometimes you need a fork and spoon for one meal, and don't ask her if she wants both, because then it's the end of the world. It's only a fork or a spoon.

Day 289

Sometimes it's just really nice to go out with girlfriends. Ok, that's actually all the time. Love these girls!

Day 290

It was a weird week for Reese. We woke up Tuesday morning to throw up, which is obviously not fun. I had a feeling it was food related because we ate fried chicken the night before and Reese ate more skin than she typically does (also, she usually eats roasted...slight mix up by mommy. Chicken Express and Golden Chick are not the same). We kept her home from school because we weren't sure and she was fine the rest of the day. Wednesday she went to school and swim as normal, but then we woke up to throw up again on Thursday. We again blamed it on food, but kept her home for the day and she was fine. Sooo, back to school Friday. Well, Saturday morning we woke up to throw up AGAIN, so we decided we needed to go see a Dr. We found one open on Saturday and learned that Reese had strep and an ear infection. :-( Poor baby girl! She never ran a fever or complained of anything hurting, so I had no idea. Also, when she does say something hurts, I always ask her if something ridiculous hurts, like her hair or her elbow. Her response is always yes, so then I don't know what to believe. Either way, thank goodness for the pink medicine that Reese loves, it quickly got her feeling much better!

A Year in Photos: Week 40

Day 277

With the weather being so nice, we decided to let Reese play with her cousins and friends after Mass. The slides was obviously a huge hit.

Day 278

Helping Dada find something under the chair.

Day 279

Zilla met Baby E at girl's night and it was the cutest thing ever. He just wanted to be near her and pat her back all night. He'll be the best big brother!

Day 280

Quick snap while Reese was at swim.

Day 281

Thursday we took off and went to the fair with my mom and Aunt. We saw lots of animals, ate a corny dog, took a picture with Big Tex, ate more fried food (fried PBJ is my favorite), listened to Mother Goose read some books, then headed home. It was obviously enough to wear Reesearoo out.

Day 282

Learning the ABCs with Dada and Dr Seuss.

Day 283

Saturday we took the kiddos to a small pumpkin patch to get our yearly pictures. They had fun as always. I love this little tradition, and it's muuuch easier than Santa!

Quick thing I want to remember about Reese. Every time we pick her up from school she has to go say goodbye to Nina (a teacher she used to have, but doesn't any more since she moved up a class). Every Friday Nina tells her, "See you Monday!" So now whenever we are saying goodbye to someone Reese always says, "see you Monday" no matter what.

A Year in Photos: Week 39

Day 270

I was so excited when I actually convinced Reese to wear this outfit. I definitely did not put her in enough dresses when she was little (cause she's so big now...), and now she only wants to wear t-shirts and shorts. I'm really ok with that, except for on Sundays. This outfit was too cute to not get a picture.

That night we took Bec to a Stars game. I think it was one of her friends that pointed out she looks more like a "B" that an "I", I thought that was pretty funny.

Day 271

I hosted GND and made this delicious pasta. I was hoping for leftovers, but every last piece was eaten.

Day 272

Just a little concert before bed. Yes, she is saying "B-I-In-Di-Go" and "Bingo was his name-oat."

Day 273

So ready for swim to begin! Her teacher teaches another class right before hers and she always looks through the window and says HI, KISSTINE! It's pretty cute.

Day 274

We've taken advantage of the nice weather lately with lots of park time. We'll be so sad when the sun sets early!

Day 275

It was a little chilly in the morning, so we all got our jackets on. Reese was very excited that hers had pockets.

More park time that evening with our best bud!

Day 276

Saturday afternoon we celebrated Annabelle's third birthday! We had lots of fun at her My Little Pony themed party.
One thing to note about Reese's outfit. We bought her the jersey she's wearing when we were in College Station a few weeks ago and she would not put it on. Husbandy tried every bribing tactic he could think of and her response was always, no! The night before we found a stuffed Reveille dog that was wearing a similar jersey and all of a sudden she wanted to put it on. Since we finally got it on her, we decided to let her wear it to the party. Our little Aggie.

We had some friends over for the Aggie game that night. This is us marching around the house to the Aggie War Hymn. When in the presence of a former drum major, you have to...right?

A Year in Photos: Week 38

Day 263

After church on Sunday we went to the Fall Festival. Obviously the kiddos had lots of fun. Next year I need to remember to skip the hamburgers outside and go inside to where the real food is, Chinese, Mexican, Italian... Most of our tickets went to the cake walk and we never won! J-Fry and Brooklyn did though, so we mooched off of their winnings.

Day 264

Too busy cleaning to take a picture.

Day 265

Reese did not want to get up, so I decided to take the opportunity to snap a picture. I love watching this girl sleep.

Day 266

Reese went with me to GND and thought this box we the perfect place to sit. I don't think Henry (the little boy whose house we were at) was impressed since he also wanted to play in it. That's no way to make friends, Reese.

Day 267

Daddy went to have drinks with friends after work, so Reese and I went on a dinner date! We were later joined by Aunt B and Zilla, which is always so much fun. Reese was a tad too short to climb up some of the steps, so I had to help her. As I was making my way up a little boy quickly reminded me adults weren't supposed to play on the playground. Ok, ok!

Day 268

Daddy left for work early and Reese wanted to say bye, so we went outside and waved to every black car we saw. Man, I hope she never loses these curls!

That night the neighbors came over for dinner and the kids found some boats to play in.

Day 269

Saturday morning breakfast with Annabelle! The dads took off to shoot guns and be manly, so we decided to have craft time.

A Year in Photos: Week 37

Day 256

The other best part about being in College Station is of course St Mary's! I'll never go to CS without being sure to make it to Mass. We happened to walk in at the same time as these two crazies, so we sat by them and their sweet family.

Day 257

Happy 2nd Baptismversay to these two cuties! We celebrated a day early, but were sure to keep the ice cream tradition.
"Let us ask the Lord from our hearts to be able to experience ever more in everyday life this grace that we have received at Baptism. That by encountering us, our brother may encounter true children of God, true brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ, true members of the Church." Pope Francis

Day 258

I got to eat breakfast with Reese at her school! We enjoyed having muffins together and then I hung around for a little bit to play.

Day 259

Reese wanted to ride with the windows down. She quickly realized she had to do something with her crazy hair...

Day 260

Reese found this microphone one morning and started singing. I kept trying to take a video, but she would just want to see it. I wish she would have finished the last song, but ran out of the room instead...

Day 261

Sometimes you're playing a really fun game and then things go awry.

Day 262

One of the moms at Reese's school put together a Saturday morning play date so parents could actually meet each other (opposed to the "hey" as we drop off our kids). Reese had so much playing with her friends and I had fun meeting parents! Hopefully we get together again soon.

There is an Appointed Time for Everything

October 15th is infant loss awareness day, so what better day than today to share this story.

When the time came for Husbandy and I to start thinking about having more kids, it was really tough for me. Theoretically I wanted more kids, but I also couldn’t imagine having to split my time with Reese. I love her so so much and didn’t want to give up any time with her, nor could I imagine loving another child as much as I love her. Of course I’ve heard you’re your heart just grows and you love even more than you knew you could, but I had a hard time with it. I prayed that the Lord would open my heart and He did it through my siblings. My brother and sister are two of my biggest blessings and I cannot imagine life without them. My life would be 100% different if my parents didn’t say a selfless yes to God, and I want that for Reese. And so, my hardened heart was opened.

Husbandy and I started to really try for another baby in May. Trying to get pregnant is fun, but it’s also hard and stressful. When you’re waiting to figure out if you’re pregnant, days feel like months and months feel like years. I was so encouraged by this website and its prayers for pregnancy. I began to pray the Trying to Conceive prayer every day. It’s a perfect reminder of who our God is. On month number four, I could tell that something was different. Mostly, I all of a sudden wanted to go to bed very early and my basal body temperature spiked. I got really really excited, but made myself wait to take a pregnancy test until what I thought would be the day I would start another cycle. When the day came, I realized the only pregnancy test I had was expired, but I used it anyway. Positive!! Yes, yes yes! But wait, do expired pregnancy tests work? What would be more likely, a false positive, or a false negative? I didn’t really know, so I decided to keep the news to myself, buy more tests that day, and see what a second test said.

Positive! I was two for two and ready to tell Husbandy. I took Reese in her room to change, handed her the pregnancy tests, and told her to give them to daddy. It was such a happy morning. That was Thursday.

There are so many emotions with getting pregnant. Relief, joy, excitement, happiness, and fear. 40 weeks. 40 weeks I have to wait to meet my baby and 40 weeks I have to worry about his/her development. I wrestled with calling my OB because I knew he most likely wouldn’t want to see me until I was further along, but ended up doing it and made an appointment that wasn’t for another 2.5 weeks. Again, another waiting game and it felt like it was forever away. We spent a lot of time that weekend with my family and I so badly wanted to say something, but decided confirming I was pregnant with a doctor made more sense first. So I kept my mouth shut.

Unfortunately, on Monday our story took a sad turn.

Just after lunch on Monday, August 31st, when I went to the bathroom, I saw my first sign of blood and froze. I tried to tell myself that bleeding could occur during pregnancy, but of course the bad thoughts outweighed any sort of good. I immediately called the doctor and was told by a nurse that there wasn’t much they could do because I was so early. I knew in the back of my mind she was going to say that, but I wanted answers. I then called Husbandy. That morning my temperature had taken a dip, which I had already told him about, so I felt like I was delivering a second drop of bad news for the day. After discussing it with him, I also decided I needed prayer warriors. Telling your sister and mom that you’re pregnant and that you might be losing the baby all at the same time is not ideal and certainly not how I had planned to share the news. It was hard, but I needed prayer. As the day went on, the little hints of blood turned into more and more and my fears grew. I cried a lot Monday night. A lot.

Tuesday morning rolled around and I could barely open my eyes. They were too puffy from the tears, so I emailed work and told them I wouldn’t be coming in. I also called the Dr again and (thankfully) got a different nurse who told me they would squeeze me in. Husbandy met me there and away we went in to the sonogram room. The last time I was in there, I got to see my precious Reese. Heart beating, little legs kicking, a big smiling face; so it was really weird for me knowing I was there and most likely not going to see anything. Having seeing Reese for the first time at 5 weeks and 6 days, I knew what I was looking for and didn’t see anything. In such a hard situation I did find comfort in the Christian music playing in the background. How awesome is that? A song playing in the sono room reminding me of God’s grace, mercy, and love. I’m so thankful for a Christ loving OB. After the sono was over the tech typed up some notes and sent Husbandy and on to wait for Dr B. One note that stuck out was “no gestational sac at this time.” It was what I expected and what I saw, but I still had hope that the sono tech saw something different.

I was pretty much ready to hear that I had miscarried, but that wasn’t what my OB had to say. He was certain I was earlier in the pregnancy than what I was saying and didn’t think the sono would have shown anything either way. He also told Husbandy and I that 1/3 of normal pregnancies bleed and the pregnancy test I took there came back positive. Instead of ruling anything a miscarriage, he gave us a 50/50 shot and told us to come back in a week.

The rest of the week I struggled between still having hope and not feeling pregnant. I don’t mean I wasn’t experiencing morning sickness, so I didn’t feel pregnant. I mean I just felt empty, a completely different feeling from the one I had in the days prior. I knew deep down I wasn’t pregnant anymore, but I wanted so badly to be wrong. It was also easy for me to think I was never even pregnant. I never saw a heartbeat and my bleeding was much like a typical period. But then I reminded myself life begins at conception and I had three positive pregnancy tests, so I know there was life inside of me. It’s hard when you’re reminded of pain and suffering at each bathroom visit. The hardest thing for me to reconcile though was that I never knew when the actual miscarriage happened. Every time I went to the bathroom I said a prayer.

As the week went by I felt peace. There were times I thought I was ok but would then just start crying and I’m sure that’s how it will be for a while. When our second Dr’s appointment rolled around I had been bleeding for a week and knew everything the sonogram would show, and the sono tech confirmed my beliefs. I didn’t really know what to expect from my OB. He’s definitely a quirky guy and I couldn’t imagine him in a sad situation. But, he surprised me and gave me comfort in knowing I didn’t do anything wrong, but this just happens sometimes. We talked about our plan going forward which included weekly blood tests to make sure my body returned to normal and lots of waiting. Thankfully, my blood counts were normal with the first blood test I took.

Eventually the day came around that should have been my first prenatal visit, but instead I wasn’t going to see the doctor at all. It was definitely a weird feeling. I wrote an email to my family asking for prayers and the responses I got were so encouraging. They reminded me that our sweet baby is in the company of angels and raising her own little voice in praise. That our child who was conceived in love has returned to be with Love itself and that she will be interceding for her Mommy and Daddy and sister before the throne of God. WOW! That day was also the feast day of Our Lady of Sorrows. I don’t find it ironic at all; I see it as God’s perfect timing and His love for His children. I know Mary was also interceding for me on her feast day.

I am so thankful for family and friends. I know the peace I’ve felt about this situation would not have been possible without the power of prayer. I’m so thankful that two friends, who thought we were going to have a nice girl’s dinner, listened when it quickly turned into me bursting into tears. I’m thankful they chose to listen, to pray, and to check in on me on the days that followed. I’m thankful for blogs that I read with a whole new perspective now, especially those that remind me “His worthiness is not dependent upon the outcome of our prayer.” He is good and His goodness endures forever.”

I am also so thankful for my place of work. As I mentioned, I missed one day of work and my manager was so supportive. On Wednesday (the day after I came back) he brought me into his office and said the nicest things to me. He reassured me that I had a support system there and if I needed more time to feel free to take it. He didn’t even know what I was going through, but he had the insight to say these things to me. I wavered between telling him later what was going on. He’s a single guy and I was sure he wouldn’t want to know about this kind of thing. After some prayers, however, I decided it was best to let him know, and again his words were so great and so kind. I also have friends at work who I know are praying for Husbandy and I.

Lastly, I’m thankful for Husbandy and Reese. Even though we were going through a hard time they brought smiles and laughs every day. I’ve definitely been reminded of how much Reese is my little angel and give her hugs and kisses as much as I can.

Husbandy and I know that one day we will be able to meet our baby in Heaven. When that day comes, I want to be able to call her by name. When we found out we were pregnant, I had just finished a novena to St Monica, and because of that we have decided to name our baby Monica.

I’ve already began to wonder what it will be like when Husbandy and I start trying again and how I’m going to handle it when I see a positive pregnancy test? I know there will be lots of joy, but also fear. I just read another blog about having faith over fear, so I hope when the time comes, I will remember those words.

Even though I didn’t get to see your heartbeat, or precious profile, I know I’ll meet you one day and know who you are, because that’s a mother’s love.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-15

There is an appointed time for everything,
and a time for every affair under the heavens.
A time to give birth, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to uproot the plant.
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to tear down, and a time to build.
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance.
A time to scatter stones, and a time to gather them;
a time to embrace, and a time to be far from embraces.
A time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away.
A time to rend, and a time to sew;
a time to be silent, and a time to speak.
A time to love, and a time to hate;
a time of war, and a time of peace.
What profit have workers from their toil?
I have seen the business that God has given to mortals to be busied about.
God has made everything appropriate to its time, but has put the timeless into their hearts so they cannot find out, from beginning to end, the work which God has done.
I recognized that there is nothing better than to rejoice and to do well during life.
Moreover, that all can eat and drink and enjoy the good of all their toil—this is a gift of God.
I recognized that whatever God does will endure forever; there is no adding to it, or taking from it. Thus has God done that he may be revered.
What is, has already been; what is to be, already is: God retrieves what has gone by.

A Year in Photos: Week 36

Day 249

Sunday night dinners are a little crazy these days with 4 little ones on the go, but I would not change it for the world! Mini B wanted her picture taken, but then realized her baby was turned the wrong way, so we took two. :-)

Day 250

Happy Labor Day! We took the opportunity to go for a family walk...to the donut shop.

Day 251

I caught Reese singing Ba Ba Black Sheep before going to bed one night (you may have to turn up the volume).

Day 252

Wednesday night swim! Reese is doing really well, she's a little younger than the other kids in her class, so sometimes I think she's behind, but the teacher says she's doing great.

Day 253

Thursday night we dropped Reese off with my dad for a couple hours. We got there before he was home, so we decided to have a mini photo shoot.

Day 254

The first midnight yell in A&M's new stadium happened to fall on 9/11, so they recreated the red, white, and blue out from 2001. Gah, I love the Aggies!

Day 255

Husbandy and I were lucky enough to get tickets to the first game in the new stadium! Mimi kept Reese, so we had a short vacation with just the two of us. We had a great day walking around campus (even though my leg started to cramp for some reason) and buying lots of fun things for Reese. The Ags ended up winning which of course made us happy as well!
